In recent years, thousands of visa seekers have moved to Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory in the hopes of a relatively easier pathway to permanent residency.
However, latest changes have sent these hopefuls scurrying for alternatives.
Tasmania has increased work experience requirements from three months to six months before an applicant is sponsored for a provisional regional skilled visa (489) and skilled permanent nominated (190) visa.
The ACT has closed state nomination for visa subclass 190 for overseas visa seekers. It has also suspended some occupation including IT Professionals and Accountants.
There is further concern about the government’s decision to increase the general points test from a minimum of 60 points to 65 points.
